How to Size a Charge Controller for your system
Whenever we talk about how to size a charge controller, the very first thing that comes to mind is what is a charge controller? It is a controller which limits the pace of current that goes to and from the battery pack. Charge controllers are fundamental to avoid totally depleting a battery. Such activity can diminish battery execution and the life expectancy of a battery drastically.
Features of charge controllers:
The easiest way to calculate the size is using the equation below.
Example:
Take the number of panels x watts to get the total watts of the solar array.
You then divide it by the voltage of your battery bank to get amps
Add 25% to allow for cold temperatures and as always, round up.
Example: 2 x 300 watt solar panels in series = 600 watts / 24 VDC battery bank + 25% = 31.25 amps.
